Time to Update?

This summer has been very chill, but I've been told by certain family members that the occasional "I'm alive" update would be appreciated. Although most of you are on Facebook now, so...

This summer has been filled with day trips to beaches, friend's houses, etc. I'm not sure why, but I seem to forget my camera everywhere I go. It's sad, because there have been some good photo-ops. I went paintballing for the first time. I (since I bruise if the wind blows too hard) got bruises on my arms and legs from getting shot, but the real pain was in my neck/shoulders. I'm not sure why, maybe from holding the gun or how I was standing, but it was worth it anyway.

I'm still working on convincing my dad to get us a dog. As far as I can tell, he's not wavering. He says maybe in 14 years.

School is quickly approaching. I'm not ready. I need to pack and review all my course materials from last semester, as well as prepare mentally and emotionally for this coming year, as it promises to be uber stressful and busy. On Tuesdays/Thursdays I'll have a class from 6:30am-3:30pm (which is crazy, but part of being a nursing student), but on Fridays I'll be done with class at 10:50am (woohoo!). Unfortunately, though, my schedule probably won't allow me to be on the hip hop team this year :(

I got my bridesmaid's dress for the wedding, but there will not be any pictures (cough Julie cough) because it still needs altered and it's in York, PA right now.

I got invited to a wedding in Boston in September and I feel really adult, because the invite was for "Whitney Maust," not "The Maust Family." I'll be going if I find someone willing to road trip it with me.

"So You Think You Can Dance" (the dance version of "American Idol" and my guilty pleasure) is a highlight of my summer. I got my mom sucked in, and we are going to see the top 10 dancers on tour in October (WOO!).

I suppose that's all. I don't update here often, so if anyone ever does want to catch up between postings you are always free to call me to chat. As for now, it's dinner time. Pasta. Mmm.

Today, I packed my bags and drove through miserable traffic to the Sutter house. I'll be chillin here until Tuesday, if the boys don't drive me to death by exhaustion first. Currently, we're waiting for David to come back so we can finish watching "Casino Royale." And yes, we really do look this good.

Well, I'm home now. Been home for a little while. I've been busy trying to find a job. I'm sure that the Maryland Board of Nursing would be very helpful if I could actually talk to a human being on the phone, but against all my valiant efforts, I only get machines.

My mom also wanted me to post that she knows me better than my dad does. The premise:

On Facebook, I have a quiz entitled "How well do you know Whitney Maust?" that has general questions about me. (Side note: all members of my family that took the quiz got a 50% or below...and I did about as well on their quizzes. Glad we know each other so well.) Anyway, my mom took the quiz orally (without any of the multiple choice options) and got 9/10 questions correct. She was quite proud of herself, and was gloating that she knew me OH SO WELL to my dad. This sparked an evening of quizzing each other, with me making a new quiz and Mom, Dad, Dayne, Blake, and Amanda making their own. Mom tried very heartily to milk the possibilities of points for all they were worth and tried to lead the quizzer with questions SHE would know the answer to, but we all did mildly well. Very mildly. Anyway, she wanted me to tell you how well she knows me and everyone else in the world, so there you go, Mom.

Bye.

I have been told that it would be nice if I occasionally let you all know that I am still alive. I am, indeed, alive. Barely, though, as I am sitting in Microbiology...and you can imagine how that's going. Today I have to go check on my E. coli cultures. If you all didn't know, E. coli smells really really awful.

Anyway, let's see what other updates I have. Today starts Easter break, but I'll be staying on campus until Sunday so I can work a little bit, then I come back on Monday in time for my 5pm shift.

Today, I am going to a retirement home to reminisce for a woman for a nursing project. This is my second visit, but I have no idea what I'm going to ask since she pretty much shared everything that I think she wants to. It's really difficult for me to find things to talk about since I don't like to talk to unfamiliar people.

I can't think of anything else. Maybe it's because I've been sick and not getting enough sleep, but my mind is a big blob of mush. If you have any questions for me or want to talk to me about anything that's cool...I just don't know what else to put up here.

ok:

1.) i got a care package from aunt lois filled with goodies to help me deal with all my sicknesses. since she's not on facebook, i have to thank her on here. so, thanks aunt lois :-)

2.) i'm going home tomorrow for spring break and i will be coming back march 22

3.) i went to messiah village (a retirement/assisted living/nursing home) for my clinical yesterday. i took vital signs and helped with feeding. the only bad thing is we have to be there at 6:30 am. but it's still not as bad as next year when we have to be in harrisburg at 6:30 am.

4.) my room is an absolute mess. it's truly insane. i don't know how i'm going to clean everything and pack tomorrow. i probably won't get back to bel air until 2 am because of how long it'll take me to pack and clean everything.

5.) i guess that's all i care to share

i have bronchitis

Monday, February 23, 2009

Well, I am sick again. It seems as though my entire BK (or Burger King, for those of you who can't put the initials together and understand what I'm talking about *cough dad cough*) paycheck lately has been going towards OTC drugs. School is very stressful and there is a lot to know: I have two exams on Friday, one on Tuesday, and who knows how many others are quickly approaching. I truly have no free time.

However, on a positive note, I got some love in the form of gingerbread cookies, soup, Emergen-C, and snack bars from the Sutter family. Unfortunately, the Emergen-C came a little late, but the soup is going to come in handy!

Friday, February 06, 2009

Well, I just finished my first week of Spring Semester classes. I'm in clinical courses now, so I'm actually learning nursing stuff instead of the sciencey stuff I've had to learn the last few semesters. I am taking Foundations of Nursing Practice, in which I will be traveling to an assisted living home and taking care of patients (not by myself, of course). I'm also taking Health Assessment, which (obviously) focuses on assessing the health of patients and getting past medical histories, etc. We got our clinical uniforms and health assessment bags which have our blood pressure cuffs, a stethoscope, the thing they test your reflexes with, the thing they look in your nose/ears/eyes with, and a whole bunch of other stuff. I was really excited that day and I've been taking vitals of everyone on my floor. My friend, Alexandra, and I are partners in that class so we take turns being the nurse and the patient. Today we assessed each other's hair, skin, and nails. My other classes are Nutrition Theory and Microbiology. I am also working 15 hours a week and doing hip hop about 3 hours per week. So basically, I have little to no free time.

updates?

I am sick. I threw up tonight for the first time in I think 7854609845798234 years. It wasn't good. Luckily my nurse-major-roommate was ready to take care of me. But seriously. I think I have the flu and I've felt like 'blah' all night. It's not good because missing one day of class during J-term is like missing an entire week of classes because of the length of each class and the fact that we only have that class for three weeks. Hopefully I'm feeling better tomorrow, but it's not looking good.

Woe is me...

Monday, January 19, 2009

I figure I should update just so you all know I didn't fall off the face of the earth.

I'm back at Messiah, and for January term I'm taking introductory statistics. The class itself wouldn't be bad if I had a different professor: the professor I have now drives me nuts. Gah.

Also, Burger King is going well. I was on drive-thru for the first time yesterday and I think I did well. We did get slammed at lunch because the drive-thru had a $53.20 order AND the front/dining room cash register had a $40.83 order at the same time and there were a lot of customers following them. We all made it out alive, though.

Yes, the Ravens lost. I am not happy about it. So poo on all you Steelers fans.
